Department of Energy Superfund sites

The United States Department of Energy oversees energy research at a number siters that handle nuclear materials.  Several sites were connected to the Manhattan Project and the development of the atomic bomb. Huge volumes of waste, often radioactive, have been improperly disposed, contaminating nearby soils and waters, landing these sites on the U. S. Superfund list.
