Coal mine accidents

Coal mining poses grave risks to miners and the environment. Modern coal mining is far safer than in earlier times,  but miners still work in dangerous environments with dangerous equipment, and they face daily risks of explosions and cave-ins. Depending on the mine location, these accidents can cause further damage at the surface, including flooding, landslides, subsidence and damage to infrastructure.
