Policy
The importance of energy to society and the wealth generated by its control lead governments to regulate its ownership, access, and sale. During times of war, policies are enacted to insure adequate supplies of energy for the military. Some nations enact polices that protect domestic energy industries, promote specific forms of energy, or subsidize the cost of energy to their citizens. More recently, government policy has aimed at reducing the environmental impacts caused by energy extraction, and use, including global climate change.
