Senghenydd colliery disaster

The Senghennydd Colliery Disaster occurred in Senghenydd, near Caerphilly, Glamorgan, South Wales on 14 October 1913, killing 439 miners, including eight 14 year old boys (Colliery is the British term for a coal mine together with its physical plant and equipment). It was the worst mining accident ever in the United Kingdom, and one of the worst energy-related disaster ever in terms of loss of life.
